Earlier this month, the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board (OMREB) sent out the sales statistics on all MLS® property types for August 2014. In short, it was another healthy month for real estate here in the Okanagan!

Compared to the figures for August 2013, the Shuswap saw a sales rise of 34%, the Central Okanagan had an increase of 23% and the North Okanagan’s numbers were up by 15%. Overall, for the entire area, this translated to a 23% increase over August of last year. Not bad, eh?

Darcy Griffiths is the President of the Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board. In a statement, Darcy explained: “Year-over-year and month-over-month, the Okanagan-Shuswap housing market continues to strengthen and has maintained a strong upward sales trend for the past six months as we make steady strides toward recovery.” Excellent news!

Griffiths continued: “More buyer activity in the higher price range reflects the renewed confidence of BC consumers as our provincial economy improves and the return of Alberta buyers as they cash in on booming job opportunities and accelerated market values in their province.”

Here’s hoping September was just as healthy… The stats should be out in another week or two.
