Kelowna is an incredible city with many wonderful neighbourhoods, from historic downtown streets to new suburbs in the hills to farms and acreages in East Kelowna. With so many options available, one of the first things Kelowna home buyers need to determine is whether they want to live in an urban area of town, the suburbs, or ”the country”.

The ‘best’ place to live is obviously very subjective as it comes down to your individual wants, needs and desires - what you are really looking for is the ‘best place for you.’ At Team Geen, part of our job is working with you to help you determine the ideal home for you and your family. Part of that process includes determining whether you want to live in an urban part of town or out in the suburbs/country.

3 Benefits of Living in an Urban Part of Town

Close to Everything - Living in an urban part of town puts you close to everything. From shopping, dentists, and schools through to pubs, clubs, parks and all sorts of different events. Not only that, but many of these things will be very close to you or within walking distance. Urban areas, such as downtown Kelowna, also have excellent transit links.

Price Stability - As the neighbourhoods in urban areas are typically long established, home prices tend to be very stable. Of course, the market still fluctuates, but substantial drops in your property’s value are less likely to occur, while big gains are more probable.

Potential - Downtowns and urban areas across North America are being revitalized and Kelowna is no different. The City of Kelowna is investing great sums of money into beautifying the downtown area and continued investment, amenities and upgrades are possible. There’s lots of potential and if that potential is realized, your property value will likely increase in coming years.

3 Benefits of Living in the Suburbs or the Country

Peace and Quiet - The country and suburbs tend to be much quieter than built-up areas and this can be more desirable for those who like a slower pace or have young families. You can enjoy your morning cup of coffee out on the patio without the sounds of traffic interrupting the serenity of the day, which is a pretty great way to relax.

Larger Properties for Less - Out in the suburbs and the country, square footage and land tends to be much cheaper. This means you can stretch your dollar further and get more property for less. If you and your family are looking for plenty of bedrooms and a big backyard (or field), then Kelowna’s rural properties and suburbs may be perfect for you.

Newer Amenities - Many of the suburbs often have newer amenities - this is not strictly true in the country, but it can sometimes be the case. Not only are the houses newer, but many of these neighbourhoods have newer schools, shops, roads, and parks. This can be very appealing to potential home buyers, particularly those with young families.
