Fall is a special time of year in the Okanagan. We’re so lucky to get the four distinct seasons that we do! As someone who helps people buy Kelowna and Okanagan real estate, I know that our climate is one of the big selling points for the folks who decide to move to Kelowna, and that makes complete sense.

With fall now officially here, homeowners’ attention turns to a number of must-do tasks before the winter arrives. So to make things a little easier, I’ve put together a fall to-do list for Okanagan homeowners.

  • Schedule a home safety inspection (this should be done at least once every year)

  • Fix any issues that could lead to bigger problems during winter. A crack in your patio concrete, for example

  • If you have a wooden fence or deck that has not had an excellent waterproof stain applied in the last 2-3 years, reapply a first-rate stain to avoid potential splitting/cracking

  • Have your irrigation and other outdoor water outlets winterized before the cold comes

  • Have your furnace inspected (assuming it wasn’t looked at during the home safety inspection)

  • Avoid leaf build-up in your gutters and on your roof - keep things clear

  • Make sure weather-stripping etc. is in good working order

Maintaining your home will help it stay in the best possible shape and, when it comes time to sell, you will likely see a greater return on your real estate investment.
